Ignite Boulder in Verse

On Wednesday night, Boulder saw its first Ignite Event with 14 presenters and over 100 in attendance. Started in 2006 in Seattle, Ignite is a style of presentation that requires presenters to use 20 slides that auto-advance every 15 seconds while allowing presenters free choice of presentation topic. The presenters at Ignite Boulder drew from a tech heavy crowd, and as such many presentations had at least a technical flavor, but others left coding aside to delve into topics from investing to imbibing. In keeping with the creative spirit of the night, we will break from traditional journalistic style and instead offer some verse.

Listen my techies and you shall hear
Of a night at ATLAS chock full of free beer,
On the 29th of October in Two Thousand Eight,
Andrew Hyde threw the debut Ignite Boulder
…and it turned out frigg’n great.

Kevin Colee kicked off with the evolution of cell
With the prediction mobile AJAX would soon cast a spell,
Then Cohen of Techstars told us Angels were dope
A fickle bunch to be sure, but we shouldn’t lose hope
Next came Kid Hine, programmer…rock star
Evangelizing coders to pick up a guitar,
Then came an Aussie, with a conference next year
With CSS tricks so smooth Hyde himself shed a tear,
With organic on the mind of bad luck Wan-ger
Whose slides of KFC prompted a bit of a pang-er
And of course Micah Baldwin was a tremendous crowd grabber
Who’s SEO talk offered hope for the aspiring D-bagger

They came fast and loose, each brave public speaker
With slides advancing quickly it was a bit of a squeaker

Phil talked of soap and Jordan of dreams
While Erin said your Mom was being violated in teams
Fetching Tara spoke deeply of fear and of shtick
While Julie offered mountains to climb as the trick
But surely it was Jeremy’s advice on crashing the party
That put the crowd in the mind for Bacardi
Two crashers at most, and you never you sleep there,
But hookups and keg stands are all game, if not fair.

So punch at your keyboards and write Andrew Hyde
Another month sans Ignite, Boulder simply will not abide
