Word recently got out that LUCA Technologies of Golden, Colorado raised $76M in Series C financing. Although most companies love to shout any new funding from the rooftops, LUCA plays things pretty tight with Venture Wire first reporting the news a couple of days ago although the round may have closed earlier in the month. The round reportedly includes $20 million from the new Green Growth Fund at Kleiner Perkins and $40 million from One Equity Partners. LUCA is working to harness the power of microorganisms that can convert hydrocarbons found in coal fields to methane (natural gas) in what LUCA calls “geobioreactors”.
