Colorado Department of Agriculture Awards Renewable Energy Grants

Last week, the Colorado Department of Agriculture awarded 14 grants totaling over $620,000 through the “Advancing Colorado’s Renewable Energy” (ACRE) program. The ACRE program is designed to promote energy related projects beneficial to Colorado’s agriculture industry. The program requires that projects benefit or be tied to agricultural production or the use of agricultural land or water. Winning grant ideas ranged across the spectrum of renewables from biofuel to wind and solar including:

  • The development of year round solar water pumping for remote grazing locations (Nunatak Alternative Energy Solutions)
  • Assistance in the measurement and valuation of onsite wind resources at three Colorado livestock facilities (Brink, Inc.)
  • Research in briquetting biomass agricultural waste products to produce energy (iCast)
