Vitro Diagnostics Expands Focus to Include Cancer Research

Vitro Diagnostics, Inc of Golden, Colorado, announced the application of its stem cell technologies to cancer research and treatment. Vitro had previously focused on applying a particular type of adult stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells (MSC), to diabetes research, drug discovery, and treatment. Vitro now believes that MSCs may also be used as a cancer therapy to carry chemotherapeutic agents selectively to cancer stem cells, which are believed to be a key to the cause and recurrence of many solid tumor types. Additionally, the company believes its technology may be applied to cancer research to learn more about cancer stem cells and potential treatments. CEO Dr. Jim Musick noted these research applications as important opportunities for “short-term revenue generation.” Vitro has filed for patent protection of its technology in the cancer arena.
