ViaWest announced the offering of its ViaWest Dedicated Virtualization product. Essentially, virtualization breaks the bond between the operating system of the computer from the server creating a “virtual machine.” Through this method companies can immediately realize improved server resource utilization and server consolidation lowering hardware costs as well as enhancing flexibility to adapt to future IT needs. The “virtual machine” is portable making transitions to new physical servers much easier than with traditional server operation. The new virtualization offering has been extensively tested both in house at ViaWest and through a pilot program with customers started in mid-2008.
