BioAMPs Secures License to Peptides and $100K Investment from CU

BioAMPs International, LLC has secured an exclusive license for a family of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) created by two researchers at the University of Colorado Denver in collaboration with researchers at the University of British Columbia. The company also received a $100,000 Proof of Concept Investment from the CU Technology Transfer Office to help move the technology towards commercialization. AMPs act as powerful, broad-spectrum antibiotics and are effective even in bacteria resistant to traditional antibiotics without inducing additional resistance. The AMPs licensed from CU were specifically designed to eliminate some of the toxicity issues seen with other AMPs. According to BioAMPS CEO David A. DeLong the company is “pleased to secure commercialization rights to this unique, potential solution to the global problem of antibiotic resistance.” BioAMPs, headquartered at the Colorado Science + Technology Park at Fitzsimons in Aurora, is a biotechnology company focused on the development of AMPs to treat both hospital and community acquired infections.
