Today it was announced that CU Law School Professor Phillip Weiser, Executive Director of the Silicon Flatirons Center for Law, Technology and Entrepreneurship and Associate Dean for Research, has accepted an appointment as Deputy Assistant Attorney General for international, policy, and appellate matters at Justice Department’s Antitrust Division. Weiser, who will begin the position in July, is no stranger to the Antitrust Division at Justice, as he previously served as senior counsel to Joe Klein, the Assistant Attorney General in that office during the Clinton Administration.
Among Weiser’s many accomplishments at CU Boulder were the founding and development of the Silicon Flatirons Center, a program that attracts world-renowned luminaries to the Law School for conferences and lectures (real estate mogul Sam Zell spoke this afternoon). Said Weiser on the subject of Silicon Flatirons during his leave of absence, “I would not be taking this job unless I was entirely confident that we have a team and a plan in place that will enable Silicon Flatirons to continue to develop and thrive. Moreover, I am taking this transition process very seriously, as is the Law School, and we be following up with more details over the weeks and months ahead, including a passing of the baton ceremony in June. Finally, we are viewing this process as a chance to improve how we operate and serve the community; to that end, I welcome any and all input that people are interested in offering.”
